Breathe is a quintet consisting of instruments that do not rely on breath for sound production. It plays Drury’s compositions, and is influenced by the Modern Jazz Quartet, minimalism, Brazilian drumming, country music, free improvisation, and assorted other musical forms. The members of Breathe are composers and bandleaders in their own rights, and have experience playing and recording with artists such as Bill Frisell, David Krakauer, Norah Jones, Tom Waits, and others.

In 2003 the New York Foundation for the Arts agreed to act as 'fiscal sponsor' for the group, enabling the use of NYFA's 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status for fundraising. Under this arrangement, plans are in the worksfor two CDs, tours in Europe and North America, and workshops. Reflecting Drury's interest in the people and landscapes of western North America, one tour will begin with a residency in a rural area (tbd) which rarely has exposure to music such as Breathe's.

If you would like to know more about Breathe, or if you would like to make a contribution, please contact Andrew Drury.
